Objectives
Academic advising aims to embody a major aspect of the vision and mission of the university by helping students understand their academic problems and ensure that they are treated beneficially, and the most prominent objectives of academic guidance can be identified as follows:
1. Establishing a relationship of cooperation, interaction and belonging between the student, the college and the community.
2. Create the appropriate conditions to achieve steady cognitive growth for the students of the department.
3. Identify students' academic strengths and weaknesses.
4. Spreading the culture of university life among new students and how to invest it for their benefit.
5. Introducing students to the variables they may face during their university career and how to deal with them.
6. Educating students about the needs of the labour market and its impact on formulating its future goals.
7. Encouraging outstanding students to achieve more.
8. Helping students who are struggling academically and helping them acquire the necessary skills to increase their educational achievement.
9. Helping students with special needs.
10. Spreading awareness of academic regulations among students.
11. Introducing students to the dangers of low academic averages.
The concept of academic advising
Academic guidance is one of the most important pillars on which the quality of the outputs of the educational process at the university level is built because it is concerned with building the student academically, psychologically and socially. Academic advising is also very important in the learning process, through which social, economic and human variables are addressed in the educational process, which contributes to the growth of the student during his university studies.
Academic advising consists of two axes of the advising process, namely:
1. Educational institution (university).
2. The student who studies at the institution.
This role is enhanced by the competent academic advisor who works through the Academic Advising Unit throughout the academic year, and academic advising contributes to achieving the student's educational goals and making the appropriate decision regarding the academic, professional and social future within the available capabilities.
The role of the Student in the counselling process
The student is the main axis in the academic advising process, and by interacting with the advising process, the wheel of achievement rushes towards achieving its goals and at a great speed, as the student determines his goals and requests advice from the academic advisor to implement his study plans, and the student's role in academic advising can be detailed in the following points:
1. Identify the academic advisor and strengthen the relationship with him.
2. Building and defining academic, social and career goals.
3. Attend academic advising sessions regularly.
4. Follow up on all new regulations and laws for the student at the university.
5. Full knowledge of the requirements of the department, college and university to graduate from the specialization he has chosen.
6. Keep copies of study plans, evaluations and academic recommendations by the academic advisor.
7. Identify effective educational resources on campus.
8. Full familiarity with the academic calendar and related dates and dates of academic guidance, registration, deletion, addition, tests and official holidays.
9. Knowing the guidance forms and obtaining them from the academic advising unit in the college.
10. Commitment to the recommendations of the academic advisor regarding registration.
11. Familiarize the student with the guide of guidance and counselling service in the college.
Academic Advising Sessions
All new students in the department are required to meet the academic advisor at the beginning of each semester, and the aim of the meeting is to educate the student about the specialization of business administration and knowledge of the study plan in the department in addition to documenting communication with the academic advisor. The student must also meet with the academic advisor before the add/drop period. The meetings should not be limited to that, but the student should refer to the academic advisor in the following cases:
1. Discuss his/her own academic development.
2. The presence of academic difficulties during his academic career.
3. The student's desire to discuss obstacles and social problems that may affect his studies.
4. The need for guidance regarding making some changes to the study schedule.
5. The desire to change the major of business administration or move to another college within the university or move to another university.
6. The desire to change the future career direction according to the variables of the labour market.
7. Discuss any emerging topics about any alternatives in his academic career or future career.
Tasks of the academic advisor in the department
Academic advising is a shared responsibility between students and academic advisors in the department and the student and the academic advisor are expected to work together to reach optimal decisions for the student's scientific path.
The following are the most important tasks of the academic advisor:
1. Preparing the student file and following up the student's status on the electronic portal, the student file contains:
· The guidance plan of the department.
· The last copy of the student's transcript.
· A summary of all applications submitted by the student and all decisions issued against the student.
· Notes on student performance in the classroom.
1. Assisting the student in registering according to the study plan.
2. Taking into account the previous requirement, minimum and maximum registration (academic load).
3. Explanation and clarification of graduation requirements (university requirements - college - specialization)
4. Preparing and signing withdrawal and addition forms.
5. Clarify the policy of absence and deprivation of the student.
6. Holding meetings and guidance meetings with students.
7. Follow up with students who suffer from difficulties in academic achievement and solve their stumbling problems.
8. Directing students to sound study methods and organizing their time.
9. Announcing and clarifying the dates of academic procedures.
10. Spread the culture of academic guidance in the department by activating the friends of guidance.

Academic Advising Methods
Academic advising programs are offered through two tracks: individual advising and group counselling. :
- Individual counselling: It takes place between the mentor (specialist) and the counsellor (the student) in a place where the student feels reassured and safe about what the mentor tells him within the limits of professionalism and complete confidentiality.
- Group counselling: Group counselling programs are provided to a group of students at the same time who are similar to each other with certain characteristics including age stage, specialization and the problem to be helped to face.
Rules of the academic system
First: Academic year: three main semesters and a summer semester, if any.
Second: Semester: A period of time not less than 12 weeks during which the student studies the courses, including the period of tests and registration.
Third: Summer semester: a period of time not exceeding 8 weeks during which the courses are studied. The examination and registration period is not included during which the period is doubled.
Fourth: Academic Warning: The notice given to the student due to a decrease in his cumulative GPA above the minimum 2 out of 5.
Fifth: Semester Average: The result of dividing the total points obtained by the student by the total units prescribed for all courses studied in any semester (shown in the table).
Sixth: Cumulative Average: The result of dividing the total points obtained by the student in all courses since joining the university by the total units prescribed for those courses (shown in the table).
Seventh: Continuous Assessment: An estimate that is temporarily allocated for each course whose nature of study requires more than one semester to complete, and is symbolized by (m) or (IP)).
